The worst place is the most common
Most people keep their perfume in the bathroom, which is precisely where it suffers most. The heat and humidity of every shower subject the bottle to exactly the conditions that ruin it. If you wish a fragrance to last, the bathroom shelf is the first habit to abandon.
Where to keep it instead
Store bottles somewhere cool, dark, and dry, with a temperature that stays steady. A drawer, a cupboard, or a wardrobe in a room that does not swing between warm and cold is ideal. Avoid windowsills, radiators, and any source of direct sun.
Keep the box
The boxes fragrances arrive in are not mere packaging — they are excellent shields against light. Returning a bottle to its box between wearings is one of the simplest ways to prolong its life. If the box is long gone, a dark drawer serves nearly as well.
Small habits, lasting scent
Keep bottles upright to protect the atomiser, resist the urge to shake them, and try to finish a fragrance within a few years of opening, when it is at its best. A nearly empty bottle holds a great deal of air and will fade faster — a gentle reason to wear your favourites freely.
